Seasonal Gut Healthy Tonics & Elixirs

Double, double toil and trouble. Fire burn and caldron bubble…

In the spirit of the season and this time of year, here are 3 of my favourite potions.  A few gut healthy tonics and elixirs to help ward off nasty cold and flus and strengthen your immune systems.

IMMUNE BOOSTING COCONUT & GINGER STOCK

Ingredients: Homemade stock or your favourite store bought. *Source with caution we don’t want any unnecessary additives. I like “The Stock Exchange” Bone broth.
1 can of whole fat coconut milk
1-2 inch Fresh Ginger, grated (more for a gingery bite).
1 lemon, juiced
Directions: Bring ingredients to a desired simmer, add salt to taste and serve.
  

SNAKE BITE

Ingredients:

1 Cup raw honey
1-2 Cloves of garlic
2-3 inch Fresh Ginger
1 piece of Turmeric Root
1 Cup pineapple (more to taste)
4 Cups Apple Cider Vinegar (I like Braggs)
1 lemon (rind and all)
Cayenne Pepper (optional)
Directions: Throw everything into a blender and strain. Store in your refrigerator and take a shot daily as a preventative or with first on-set of cold and flu symptoms.

TURMERIC & LEMON FERMENTED ELIXIR

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp Turmeric Root, grated

1 tsp Ginger Root, grated

3 Cups boiling, filtered water

Pinch of sea salt

2 Tbsp Raw Honey

¼ cup Fresh lemon juice

¼ cup Just Shut Up and Try It Ferments, Ginger/Cinnamon Jun

¼ cup pineapple or orange juice (freshly juiced)

Directions: Place turmeric and ginger in pot with water and bring to a boil. Steep uncovered for 20-30 min and stir in the honey. Before adding in the lemon and Jun, allow for it to cool until it reaches room temp.
